In 2006, Arlene Lurey was a busy mom with two young girls, and her entry for our contest was late! By this time, the INBF/WNBF had established what a perfect Figure physique should look like in terms of muscularity, poise and presentation. Well, Arlene was absolutely Perfect! Upon winning her WNBF Pro 
Card that July, she went on to capture several Pro Figure titles and grace the covers of Natural Bodybuilding and Fitness Magazine. She also became involved as a judge and presenter at our California seminars and training camps. Arlene is a fantastic judge, she’s gone all over the country, judged World Championships, and to this day, she is infamous for her encouraging smile to each and every athlete as they walk onto a stage.
I remember the day that Arlene told me that she had been “training really hard” in her new home gym, and that she had thrown away the heels! She had a plan to compete in bodybuilding, and she meant to show her girls what it meant to be a determined, healthy and strong woman. Arlene went to Washington in 2011, and placed second in a very close contest. It simply made her more determined to win the Mayhem that year, and that’s exactly what she did! Her symmetry has always been exceptional, and solid weight training had added incredible size to her shoulders and arms. The Lurey’s family activities include competitive speed skating which also added size and detail to Arlene’s shapely quads.
We appreciate all that Arlene has done to encourage so many people in natural bodybuilding. She is an important part of our team in always being available to translate Spanish, drive our staff to events in her van, find the best food to be sure everyone gets a healthy meal, and we all look good too as she’s awesome with hair & make-up. Arlene has continued to race with her husband Craig and their girls, but the weight training has continued as well. The time is now, and Arlene will be competing at this year’s Muscle Mayhem!
